Introducing the Tree Ornament Sampler! An embroidery sampler that when complete you can sew into four festive holiday ornaments. This sampler includes four tree panels and four tree trunks for you to embroider by hand. I used back stitch, couching, and french knots, but you can choose your own stitches to suit your own taste. For best results, we recommend using 3 strands of embroidery floss or size 8 perle cotton in your needles. Choose your favorite colors.
This sampler lends itself to a lot of color and sparkle*—the couching around the outside is a great place to use metallic threads. I can't wait to see what you'll make. Complete directions for sewing your embroidered panels into ornaments are included. Sampler arrives printed and ready to stitch.
You will need:
Embroidery Thread
Needles
Scissors
Backing fabric or wool
Sewing Machine (optional)
Iron and Ironing Surface
*Want to add a little glitzy sparkle to your ornaments? We’ve got you covered! SELECT "Add Sparkle!" in the dropdown menu above. Sparkle kits include seed beads, sequins, and metallic threads to add shine to your ornaments. Each kit is unique and contains a mix of new and vintage embellishments, hand packaged in an up-cycled metal mints tin.
The sampler arrives preprinted on cotton quilting fabric, ready to stitch and includes basic instructions. You provide your own threads, needles, and hoop.
PLEASE NOTE: This item is not embroidered, but ready to be embroidered by YOU. The pictures show one way to fill in the design, but you can choose whatever colors/threads you like.
What size is it?
This Sampler measures approximately 9" x 9".
What thread should I use?
We use a combination of size 8 perle cotton and/or embroidery floss.
Where can I find more embroidery help?
I'm so glad you asked! Check out my online workshops on Creativebug.
Where can I see other examples of the finished sampler?
Instagram! Check out the hashtag #dropclothsamplers for tons of beautiful examples of all our designs, stitched by people like you. I hope you'll add yours to the mix!
How should I back my sampler?
For best results, I recommend backing this fabric with a second piece of fabric (cotton or linen) before placing your fabric in the hoop. You'll get the flattest, most even stitches this way. Check out my how-to for this step on Creativebug or IGTV (@dropcloth)
What size hoops should I use?
I like a size 6—but use whatever you hoop you have on hand.
